To say 2021 has already been a wild year would be a vast understatement. A moment this writer never saw happening finally happened. It’s been 24 years in the making folks, but I finally got a puppy! Ladies and gentlemen, please let me introduce you to Mitchie Magic Vieira.

Of course, like most Disney kids – the desire for me to one day get this little guy all stemmed from some of Disney’s most adorable canines. From OGs like Pluto and Goofy to new breeds like Dante and Dug, Disney Dogs have been a staple since the release of many Disney classics like “Cinderella” and “Lady and the Tramp”. But which Disney Dogs stand out above the pack? Let’s wag our tails like Mitchie and find out!
Honourable Mention: Stitch

Okay so Stitch isn’t technically a dog, but Lilo picked him up at the pound thinking he was a dog, which makes him an honorary member of this list. He’s cute, he’s cuddly (when he wants to be) and he knows how to make our hearts melt soon after destroying the house. Pretty classic puppy behaviour, just in blue alien form.
13. Nana (Peter Pan)

The Darling children’s nursemaid, Nana is practically the perfect pooch, taking care of her family every chance she gets. She’s also Disney’s first flying dog, thanks to the help of a little bit of pixie dust. If only she got to visit Neverland with the rest of the Darlings.
12. Dodger (Oliver & Company)

This Jack Russell Terrier is as cool as it gets, and also one smart cookie. He knows New York City like the back of his paw and his quick mentorship/bond with little kitty Oliver is serious friendship goals.
11. Percy (Pocahontas)

The sassiest pug you will ever meet, Percy wasn’t always the most friendly pup. Coming from a life of luxury, it took Percy a while to to become the dog we all loved after meeting Pocahontas and lifelong frenemy Meeko. Trading baths for friendship is truly a hero’s journey.
10. Copper (The Fox and the Hound)

Curious and kind, Copper is such a loveable bloodhound and his friendship with Tod is as sweet as can be. Sure adulthood ultimately changes this little guy, making him more serious and reserved, but when he ultimately spares the life of his former friend, we know deep down Copper still has a heart of gold.
9. Dante (Coco)

The spirit guide we all wish we had, Dante is such a fun-loving, goofy pup who knows exactly how to get what he wants. This Xolo dog comes with a rich cultural background and ensures that Miguel is able to reunite his family in the Land of the Dead and living. A good boy indeed.
8. Bolt (Bolt)

The most recent Disney dog to be the star of his own film, Bolt is an American White Shepherd who believes he has superpowers. Unlike most other Disney dogs, Bolt isn’t always likeable, and it takes a journey with other animal friends for him to reunite with his owner and Penny, and discover that he is a super dog, just without powers.
7. Slinky Dog (Toy Story)

While Slinky isn’t technically a real dog, this toy sure has the heart and loyalty of one. Always the voice of reason, Slinky is willing to do anything and everything to help his friends, even if it means risking his own well-being. The best toy canine you could ever find.
6. Dug (Up)

Don’t we all wish we could know what our pups were thinking? Well this Golden Retriever comes with a special collar that does exactly that! Dug is super cheery and playful, and his love for squirrels is next level. Like many dogs out there, Dug captures your heart immediately with his big eyes and equally big heart.
5. Max (The Little Mermaid)

This furball defines the phrase cute as a button and is actually one of the first Disney dogs this writer fell in love with. He’s silly but also extremely intelligent, being the only one who can smell Ursula’s evil under her disguise. Sheepdogs may be massive, but Max is also massively loveable.
4. Patch and Lucky (One Hundred and One Dalmatians)

All 99 dalmatian pups are equally cute, but we’re singling out Patch and Lucky as they are the only ones that were really identified and given personality in this 1961 film. Rambunctious little guys who can get into a lot of trouble, but still manage to be super adorable while doing so (reminds me of Mitchie). These pups made the Dalmatian a must for so many families.
3. Pongo and Perdita (101 Dalmatians)

The parents of our favourite Dalmatian pups, Pongo and Perdita rank above their pups for two reasons. First, their love is so pure and second, they are tremendous parents. Raising as many puppies as they are can’t be easy, and they always protect each and every one at all costs. There is only one other dog romance that stands above theirs.
2. Pluto (Mickey Mouse & Friends)

The dog that started it all, Pluto helped define what a Disney dog could be. Pluto is protective, fun-loving and the best friend Mickey Mouse could ever ask for. Unlike Goofy who is anthropomorphic, Pluto represents the everyday dog – the kind of pal we all hope our own dogs will grow up to be.
1. Lady and Tramp (Lady and the Tramp)

Arguably one of the greatest romances of all-time, there is no Lady without Tramp and no Tramp without Lady. The household pet and back alley scoundrel represent a classic tale of canine love, and Lady is what made me fall in love with Mitchie when I first saw him! Now he just needs a pal to share spaghetti with and my life will be complete.
