A long time ago in a galaxy far far away, Disney+ gave us all the great news we needed and announced that “The Mandalorian” will be returning for Season 2 on Disney+ on Friday, October 30th. Fresh off a very surprising, albeit well-deserved, Emmy nomination for Best Drama series, expectations are very high for the new season. However, Mando shouldn’t fret, because with the adorable Child by his side, he’s sure to steal our hearts all over again.
Speaking of the Child, let’s be real – the most exciting aspect regarding The Mandalorian’s return date is that come November, a whole new crop of Baby Yoda memes will be at our disposable again. Seriously, has anything produced in TV and film history ever been so adorable? While Baby Yoda may have been the internet’s biggest star last fall, he isn’t the only adorable creature in the galaxy. In fact, even though the Star Wars franchise is known for its galactic battles of good vs. evil; it has also quietly become the go-to franchise for super cute characters (and no we are not talking about Han Solo).
So may the force be with you as you soak in the adorableness that is Star Wars and count-down the best of the cutest creatures and characters in the galaxy.
9. Rotta the Hutt

Rotta the Hutt, son of infamous Star Wars villain Jabba, is a relative unknown to a majority of mainstream Star Wars fans because his only appearances comes in “The Clone Wars” movie and TV series, hence his placement on this list. At first glance, he may not seem too cute but once the little slug-like creature wiggles around in his blanket and his father’s arms, he manages to also wiggle his way into our hearts.
8. D-O

The latest droid to be introduced in the final Skywalker Saga film, D-O’s time with Rey and her crew may have been brief but his tiny frame and excitable energy was contagious from the start. He immediately formed an annoying little brother bond with BB-8 that was an incredibly underrated (and adorable) aspect of “The Rise of Skywalker.” Hopefully, D-O somehow manages to slide his way into future Star Wars films as we definitely deserve a second helping of this lovable little guy.
7. Ewoks

The OGs of cuteness, Ewoks were the first characters in the Star Wars franchise to define the term precious. Sure, these kick ass warriors could probably kill you if you look at them the wrong way. However, these walking teddy bears’ feisty attitude is what makes them such a uniquely cuddly species. Just make sure they don’t have a handle on their weapons when trying to hug them.
6. Babu Frik

Similar to D-O, Babu Frik’s appearance in “The Rise of Skywalker” was limited, but the droidsmith still managed to steal the show and save the day, all while being delightful. Small, smart and wrinkly – Babu Frik is the perfect recipe for Star Wars adorableness. Honestly, if he was Rey’s father instead of Palpatine, Star Wars fans would probably be a lot happier with that final film’s ending. In all seriousness though, Disney needs to start selling more Babu Frik merchandise because his high, squeaky voice and compact little ant-like body is truly a missed marketing opportunity.
5. Porgs

Porgs are basically the new generation of Ewoks albeit a lot less deadly. These super cute and incredibly marketable creatures may have rubbed some adult Star Wars fanatics the wrong way (for reasons this writer will never understand), but they were an instant hit with the kids (and me aka a kid at heart). These puffin-like fluffy birds with Snapchat filter-like eyes are the epitome of precious – a stuffed animal that was ready to be made as soon as “The Last Jedi” was released. The moment when the Porg and Chewbacca flew the Millennium Falcon together is truly iconic and deserves more praise than it gets.
4. Chewbacca

For those who don’t know the heart of Chewy, he might not scream adorable at first glance. Yet, despite the reality that Chewbacca could literally rip your arms off if he wanted to (Han Solo can confirm this fact), Chewy has shown time and again that he is the heart and soul of Star Wars, and is as loyal as they come. Combine that with his furry appearance, and you basically got a giant teddy bear that’s equal parts cute and powerful.
3. R2-D2

Out of every Star Wars character out there, R2-D2 has surely seen and been through it all. A loyal sidekick through every battle and war, R2-D2 knows how to win and be a constant pillar of good. You might think all of these trials and tribulations might have had an affect on the droid, but somehow, R2-D2 manages to inspire optimism in his friends with his penguin like waddle and few digital tones. Every time R2-D2 comes on screen, be prepared to feel all the feels, because he knows how to deliver emotional impact and cuteness overload all in one sitting.
2. BB-8

Fun fact: BB-8 is the reason I fell in love with Star Wars in the first place. Just from a picture alone, the snowman shaped droid brought a huge smile to my face and I can honestly say after watching every film he’s in, he always manages to find new ways to steal my heart. From his charming beep boop noises to his quirky relationships with R2-D2 and D-O, BB-8 is the best friend and partner in crime any man, woman or droid could ask for. Also considering that I’ve met BB-8 (at Disney World), I can without a doubt say that he is the cutest droid in the world, no question.
1. Baby Yoda (aka The Child)

Did you expect anyone else to top this list? The Child is by far the most adorable being to exist in the galaxy and I will accept no arguments suggesting otherwise. Ever since he looked at The Mandalorian with those big innocent eyes, we knew we were done. The universe will never create another being more adorable and we should all be praising the heavens (or Jon Favreau & Co.) for bringing the internet sensation that is Baby Yoda to our lives. There really is nothing else I can say about The Child that hasn’t been said before, so let’s just fondly remember that time he was sipping his soup and be grateful that there is more Baby Yoda to come in the months ahead.
